Geoscientist Lead Tour of the Kaslo River Valley and Sandon Natural hazards including landslides, floods, avalanches, and wildfires caused problems for the miners and early settlers of the 1890s, and continue to challenge engineers, geologists, and planners today. We will stop at several sites of interest in the Kaslo River valley, on our way to the ghost town of Sandon. Of special interest is evidence of the flood (or debris flow?) which destroyed most of the town in 1955. Everyone will carpool from Kaslo.
