Rising Tide Research Foundation
The Engineering Manager plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the activities of the Foundation’s marine hardware testing operation. In the first phase of the role, you will develop the technical specifications for the new testing facility, select and procure test and laboratory equipment, and work with architects, consulting engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities to bring the facility from concept through construction and commissioning. Once the facility is operational, you will manage the engineering department based there, directing all testing programs — including high-voltage battery testing — and supervising its technical staff on an ongoing basis.
This is a permanent position with no defined end date. Hours are guaranteed year-round and are not seasonal or project-limited: on completion of facility construction, the position continues in the operations-management capacity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
Registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Candidates registered as EIT are expected to be progressing toward P.Eng. licensure; P.Eng. designation is an asset. Engineering deliverables requiring a professional seal are provided by licensed external consulting engineers. - Extensive (typically 5+ years) experience in an engineering discipline relevant to hardware testing, battery systems, or marine equipment, including several years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Demonstrated experience specifying, procuring, and commissioning test or laboratory equipment; experience with facility construction or fit-out projects is a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of high-voltage electrical safety practices and applicable codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code; CSA, IEC, UL, and marine classification standards relevant to battery and electrical systems).
- Strong budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and vendor-management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of engineering specifications and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mandarin language skills are an asset.
